Could Nevadans vote to overturn the A’s financing bill?

YES

Nevada voters have two direct means of changing laws in the state.

Ballot initiatives can enact or amend state and local laws and the Nevada Constitution. Ballot referenda can approve or disapprove existing legislation. If voters disapprove a law, it becomes void.

In order to get an initiative or referendum on the ballot, a petition to do so must obtain signatures from at least 10% of the number of voters in the previous general election.

In 2022, 1,025,854 people voted, meaning that 102,586 signatures would be needed to get an initiative or referendum added to the 2024 ballot. At least 25,647 signatures would need to come from each of the state’s four congressional districts.

If a petition got enough signatures and a simple majority of Nevadans voted in favor of repealing the deal to bring the Oakland A’s to Las Vegas, the bill would be voided.
